Gairloch High FilmG entries

Our pupils have entered four films into this year’s competition. A lot of work has gone into creating them – please have a look if you have time (and VOTE). The shortlist for the various prizes will be announced on the 8th of January.

Gairloch High School’s main film this year. The first viewing will leave a lot of questions but the second should answer them.
It would be awful to hear that you were no longer wanted … but to hear that your loved-ones no longer want you around …

Eòin‘s trip by kayak to Isle Maree.
Even though it is small, there aren’t many places as important or as precious in the culture of the Gael. I myself had heard a lot about it, but the divide between legend and truth wasn’t at all clear. Furthermore, there was a long and dangerous journey ahead if I was to follow the heroes of our past.

A journey through the waves of time…

Turas ‘Bannan’ dhan Eilean Sgitheanach / ‘Bannan’ Trip to Skye

Air an 13mh den mhìos, chaidh còignear sgoilearan (Amy, Cameron, Ruairidh, Eoin, agus Iain) a-null gu Sabhal Mòr Ostaig còmhla ri Maighstir Cuimeanach. Mar phàirt de dhuais FilmG, fhuair sinn an cothrom faicinn mar a bhios an drama Gàidhlig ‘Bannan’ air fhilmeadh.

On the 13th of this month, five pupils (Amy, Cameron, Ruairidh, Eoin, and Iain) went across to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig accompanied by Mr Cumming. As part of a prize for FilmG, we were fortunate enough to get the chance to see how the Gaelic drama ‘Bannan’ is filmed.

‘Bannan’ Trip to Skye

Nuair a ràinig sinn togalach an t-Sabhail Mhòir, choinnich sinn ri feadhainn de na cleasaichean às a’ phrògram agus chuir sinn beagan cheistean air stiùiriche ‘Bannan’ cuideachd. An seo, chunnaic sinn na h-àitean far am bi iad a’ filmeadh nuair a bhios na caractaran air seata a-staigh, agus aodach nan cleasaichean. When we arrived at the Sabhal Mòr building, we met some of the actors and actresses from the program and got to ask the ‘Bannan’ director some questions as well. Here, we saw each set that they would use to film indoor scenes, and the actors’ costumes. An uair sin choisich sinn sìos chun a’ chidhe far an robh an sgioba-filmidh a’ dèanamh sealladh. Chithear dìreach cho sgileil is a tha na cleasaichean san drama oir b’ e sealladh glè èifeachdach a bh’ ann le sgriobt gu math fada. Às dèidh seo, chanainn gu bheil sinn uile a’ cur luach air cho doirbh ‘s a tha e prògram telebhisein ceart a dhèanamh, agus mhothaich sinn gu bheil e feumail barrachd air fichead daoine a bhith san sgioba agad! Then we walked down to the pie, where the film team were shooting a scene. It was obvious how skilled the actors were as it was a very effective scene with a lengthy script. After this experience, I would say that we all appreciate just how hard it is to make a professional TV program, and we realised that you’d need more than twenty people in your team!

‘Bannan’ Trip to Skye

Gun teagamh sam bith, ‘s e latha gu math spòrsail a bh’ ann agus bha rudan inntinneach ann airson a h-uile duine. Bha an turas seo feumail dha-rìribh a thaobh FilmG an ath bhliadhna, agus ionnsachadh mu dheidhinn cleasachd no sgilean filmidh. Cuideachd, fhuair Ruairidh an cothrom agallamhan a dhèanamh còmhla ri stiùirichean agus cleasaichean proifeiseanta. ‘S dòcha gun fhaic sibh iad ann am film san àm ri teachd.

Without a doubt, it was a very enjoyable day and there was something interesting there for everyone. This trip was very useful for our FilmG next year, and to learn a little about acting and filming skills. Also, Ruairidh got the chance to film some interviews with directors and professional actors. You might even say these in a film in the future.
