Tachartas Obraichean Gàidhlig / Gaelic Careers’ Event

Chaidh buidheann de sgoilearan gu Tachartas Obraichean Gàidhlig o chionn ghoirid. Tha Maisie Bhaisteach (S2) a’ toirt seachad beagan fiosrachaidh:

A group of pupils recently went to a Gaelic Careers’ Event at Eden Court. Maisie Baptist (S2) gives some details:

Air Diardaoin 16mh am Màrt chaidh sinn gu Inbhir Nis gus pàirt a ghabhail ann an latha obraichean Gàidhlig. Bha mòran roghainnean againn: bùth-obrach mu na meadhanan le luchd-obrach BBC Alba, dreuchdan Gàidhlig, bùth-obrach dràma, ceòl agus òrain, agus bruidhinn ri daoine òga a thaobh mar a tha Gàidhlig cudromach nan obraichean. Fhuair sinn cothrom cuideachd a dhol timcheall air taisbeanadh anns an robh mòran bhuidhnean mar Stòrlann agus Highlife na Gàidhealtachd. Chaidh biadh a thoirt dhuinn cuideachd. Bu thoigh leinn taing a thoirt do Mhgr Cuimeanach airson an latha sgoinneil seo a chur air dòigh.

On Thursday 16th March we went to Eden Court to take part in a Gaelic careers’ day. The different choices we had included a media workshop with employees from BBC Alba, Gaelic careers, a drama workshop, music and song, and speaking with young ambassadors who talked about how Gaelic is important in their jobs. We also got to go round an exhibition with many different organisations including Stòrlann and Highlife Highland. Lunch was also provided for us. We’d like to thank Mr Cumming for allowing us to participate in this great day!

Tha Ruaraidh MacAlasdair (S1) a’ sgrìobhadh mu na bha feumail dha fhèin:

Ruaraidh Alexander (S1) writes about what he found useful:

Na mo bheachd, ’s e latha sgoinneil a bh’ ann. Fhuair mi tòrr a-mach mu BBC Alba is na meadhanan Gaidhlig. Bha seo uabhasach inntinneach dhomh air sgàth ’s gu bheil mi a’ smaointinn mu obair fhaighinn anns na meadhanan. Cuideachd, fhuair sinn tòrr a-mach mu na h-ealain Ghàidhlig (mar eisimpleir na diofar fhèisean). Bha e uabhasach feumail a bhith a faighinn a-mach mu dheidhinn nan diofar obraichean a gheibh daoine aig a bheil Gaidhlig.

In my opinion, it was a fantastic day. I found out lots about BBC Alba and the Gaelic media. This was really interesting for me because I am thinking about work in the media. We also found out about the Gaelic arts (for example, the Fèis movement). It was really useful to find out about the different careers that are open to Gaelic speakers.

’S e aon de na rudan as inntinniche a chuala sinn gu bheil am BBC a’ sireadh luchd-obrach dà-chànanach. Tha e coltach gum bi prògram naidheachdan Albannach a’ tòiseachadh an ath-bhliadhna agus tha am BBC a’ lorg dhaoine a nì obair dithis – luchd-naidheachd a nì aithisgean an dà chuid airson BBC Scotland agus BBC Alba. Thuirt neach-naidheachd a tha ag obair dhan BhBC ann an Inbhir Nis nach fhada gus nach bi ach luchd-obrach dà-chànanach ag obair air a’ Ghàidhealtachd.

One of the most interesting things we heard was that the BBC are increasingly looking for bilingual employees. It is likely that a Scottish news programme will be launched next year and the BBC are looking for employees who can do the work of two people  – journalists who report for both BBC Scotland and BBC Alba. A journalist who works in Inverness with the BBC said that it will not be long before the BBC only employs bilingual (Gaelic and English speaking) journalists in the Highlands.
