Turas FilmG a Ghlaschu / FilmG Trip to Glasgow

Rinn 21 (sgoilearan, tidsearan agus pàrantan) à Geàrrloch an slighe a Ghlaschu Dihaoine 17mh an Gearran airson Duaisean FilmG 2017. Bha sgoilearan às an sgoil againn air naoi ainmeachaidhean fhaighinn anns an roinn òigridh (cairteal de na h-ainmeachaidhean air fad) ach cha robh fios againn am faigheadh sinn duaisean sam bith air an oidhche.

Twenty-one of us (pupils, teachers and parents) made our way to Glasgow on Friday the 17th of February for the FilmG Awards for 2017. Pupils from our school had received nine nominations for the youth competition (four of the total nominations) but we did not know whether we would get any prizes on the night.

Thàinig a h-uile duine againn còmhla airson biadh mus deach sinn gu Tallaichean Baile Ghlaschu airson a’ chuirm fhèin. Bha oidhche dìreach mìorbhaileach againn – bhuannaich Ruaraidh MacAlasdair an duais airson an dealbh-beò as fheàrr, bhuannaich Eòin Cuimeanach an duais airson am film fòn-làimh as fheàrr, bhuannaich Amy Gudgeon agus Cameron MacIll’Fhinein an duais airson an sgriopt as fheàrr. Uile gu lèir, bhuannaich sinn trì de na h-ochd farpaisean-òigridh. Bhuannaich Mgr. Cuimeanach cuideachd an sgriobt as fheàrr anns an fharpais fhosgailte.

We all came together for a meal before we went to the Glasgow City Halls for the ceremony. We had an amazing night – Ruaraidh Alexander won the prize for the best animation, Eòin Cumming won the prize for the best mobile film, Amy Gudgeon and Cameron MacLennan won the prize for the best script. Altogether, we won three of the eight youth competitions. Mr. Cumming also won the Best Script in the Open Category.

Bha an turas seo gu math cosgail – cha b’ urrainn dhuinn a bhith air a dhol ann gun an taic a fhuair sinn bho Chomunn na Gàidhlig, Comunn nam Pàrant, Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd, An Comunn Gàidhealach (Meur Loch Iù) agus A’ Bhùth Charthannas. Taing mhòr, mhòr dhaibh!

This trip was very expensive – we couldn’t have gone without the support that we received from Comunn na Gàidhlig, Comunn nam Pàrant, The Highland Council, An Comunn Gàidhealach (Loch Ewe Branch) and the Fundraising Shop. A huge thanks to them!

Bha an turas an sin gu math fada ach chaidil mi airson pìos mòr dhen ùine. Nuair a ràinig sinn Glaschu, chaidh sinn gu taigh-bìdh Mecsaganach agus bha am biadh uabhasach blasta. Chaidh sinn an uair sin gu Tallaichean Baile Ghlaschu airson nan duaisean agus chunnaic mi tòrr dhaoine bhon t-siabann Ghàidhlig Bannan. Bha e uabhasach spòrsail agus inntinneach – bha mi a’ faireachdainn uabhasach iomagaineach ach air bhioran aig an aon àm. Às dèidh nan duaisean chaidh sinn air ais air a’ bhus agus thill sinn dhachaidh aig ceithir uairean sa mhadainn!

The journey to Glasgow was very long but I slept for most of the way. When we arrived in Glasgow, we went to a Mexican restaurant and the food was very tasty. We then went to the Glasgow City Halls for the awards and I saw lots of stars from the Gaelic soap Bannan. It was really fun and interesting. I was feeling very nervous but excited at the same time.

Bha turas iongantach againn a Ghlaschu. Fhad ’s a bha sinn air an t-slighe an sin chunnaic sinn seallaidhean brèagha. Às dèidh dhuinn Glaschu a ruighinn chaidh sinn gu taigh-bìdh Mecsaganach. Shuidh sinn aig bòrd uabhasach fada agus chòrd am biadh teth rinn. Chaidh ainmean mo dhithis charaid a ghairm aig duaisean FilmG – bha mi air bhioran agus bha mi gu math toilichte air an son. Bha an aodannan làn iongnaidh. Às dèidh nan duaisean thill sinn dhachaigh air a’ bhus gu Geàrrloch – a’ ruighinn aig ceithir uairean sa mhadainn. Abair latha!

We all had an amazing trip to Glasgow. As we were on our way there we saw some nice scenery. After we got to Glasgow we went to a Mexican restaurant. We all sat at a really long table and enjoyed our spicy food. The names of both of my friends were called out at the FilmG awards – I got goose-bumps and I was really happy for them. I couldn’t wait to see their faces of excitement. After the awards we went back to the bus and travelled home to Gairloch – arriving back at four in the morning. What a day!

Cha deach mise a Ghlaschu còmhla ris an sgoil, is bha mi-fhìn is mo theaghlach beagan fadalach airson a’ bhiadh… Ach, bha e cho blasta. Às dèidh sin, chaidh sinn chun an ionad – “The Old Fruitmarket.” Bha e a’ coimhead cho spaideil, is bha tòrr dhaoine air a thighinn bho feadh na h-Alba. Bha mu 400 daoine an sin, uile a’ coimhead cho spaideil. Bhuannaich mise duais airson an Dealbh-Beò as fheàrr, is b’ fheudair dhomh a dhol suas air an àrd-ùlair le Anna airson òraid a dhèanamh! Chaidh sinn “Backstage” airson dealbhan, is chaidh mise is Eòin air ais airson agallamh. Cuideachd, rinn mi agallamh le BBC Alba. Bha oidhche cho math agam.

I didn’t travel with the school, and myself and my family were slightly late for the meal, but it was very tasty when I got it. After that, we headed for the venue – “The Old Fruitmarket.” It looked very fancy, and there were lots of people from all over Scotland there. There must have been about 400 people in the hall, all looking very smart. I won the prize for Best Animation, and I had to go up with Anna to the stage and make a speech in front of everyone! We went Backstage for photos, and later in the night, myself and Eòin went back for interviews. I was also taken out to do an interview with BBC Alba. Overall, I really enjoyed the night.

Nuair a chunnaic mi an Old Fruitmarket, chuir e iongnadh orm cho mor is cho spaideil ’s a bha e. Nuair a chaidh m’ fhilm ainmeachadh mar an Film Fòn-Làimh as fheàrr, rinn mi mo shlighe eadar bhùird chun an àrd-ùrlair. Bha mi gu math mothachail air na solais a bha a’ deàrrsadh sìos orm. Bha mi gam fhaicinn fhèin air an sgrion mhòr. ‘S e Calum MacIl-Leathain (cleasaiche ainmeil) a thug an duais dhomh agus an uairsin rinn mi òraid. Bha mi nearbhch fhad ’s a bha mi a’ coiseachd chun an àrd-ùrlair ach nuair a thòisich mi air bruidhinn dh’fhàs mi na bu chiùine. Chaidh mi air cùl an steids airson dealbhan agus chaidh mo dhealbh a thogail còmhla ri Daibhidh Walker, a tha ann am Bannan. Bha agallamh agam ‘s aig Ruaraidh le BBC Alba. Bha agallamh agam cuideachd le BBC Rèidio nan Gàidheal agus An Latha. Chòrd an oidhche rium gu mòr ged a bha mi glè sgìth aig an deireadh!

When I saw the Old Fruitmarket, I was astonished by how posh it all was. When my film was announced as the Mobile Short Film winner, I made my way between tables towards the stage. I was very aware of all the spotlights that were shining down on me. I could even see myself on the big screen! Calum MacLean gave me the prize and I then gave a short speech. I had been nervous as I walked onto the stage but I grew calmer as I started talking. After that, I went backstage where I got my photo taken. I got a photo with David Walker who is a character in Bannan, the Gaelic series based in Skye. Ruaraidh and I had an interview with BBC Alba. I also had an interview with BBC Rèidio nan Gàidheal and An Latha, the Gaelic TV News programme. I enjoyed the night very much even though I was very tired at the end!

Bha mi nas nearbhaich na bha mi riamh nuair a choisich sinn a-steach gu an Old Fruitmarket agus nas miosa na sin nuair a chaidh m’ ainm a leughadh a-mach airson an Sgriopt As Fheàrr! Cha robh na solais geala a bha a’ deàrsadh sìos orm nuair a choisich sinn suas chun an àrd-ùrlar a’ cuideachadh! Ach nuair a thòisich mi a’ bruidhinn bha mi a’ faireachdainn beagan nas fheàrr agus nuair a chaidh sinn air cùl an stèids agus a thog duine dealbhan dhinn, ‘s e sin nuair a thàinig e a-steach orm gun do bhuannaich sinn duais airson an fhiolm a rinn sinn, agus bha mi cho toilichte!

I was more nervous than I had ever been when we walked into the Old Fruitmarket and even worse than that when my name was read out for the Best Script! The white lights that shone down on me when I walked up to the stage didn’t help! But when I began to speak I felt a bit better and when we went back-stage and had photos taken, that was when I realised that we had won a prize for the film we had made, and I was so happy.

Nuair a chuala mi m’ ainm agus a thoisich mi a’ coiseachd suas dhan an àrd-ùrlar bha e beagan eagalach ach nuair a thòisich mi air bruidhinn bha e ceart gu leòr. B’ fheudar dhomh torr dhealbhan fhaighinn agus fiù ’s às dèidh sin, thagh iad an fhear as miosa airson an làrach-lìn aca! Ach às dèidh sin fhuair sinn hot dogs is mar sin bha mi ceart gu leòr. Le sin a-mach às an rathad, tha mi den bheachd gun e a bhith a’ coimhead air na filmichean a rinn a h-uile duine an rud as fheàrr.

When I heard my name and I began to walk to the stage it was a bit daunting but when I started to speak it was fine. I had to have many pictures taken but even after that, they chose the worst one for their website! But after that we got hot-dogs and I was alright. With that out of the way, watching films that others had made was the best part of the night.
