Advanced Higher Art WorkLaura Ella Kirk, Rachael Thomas and Elizabeth Hardman have now completed their Portfolio Preparation Course with Eleanor White of Bridge House Art in Ullapool. For the past twelve weeks they have travelled up to Ullapool every Monday to spend a day working with Eleanor, alongside eight other full-time students. It has been an extremely worthwhile experience that culminated on Saturday 24th Feb when some excellent examples of their work were included in an exhibition, ‘Between Tea Breaks’, at the An Talla Solais Gallery in Market Street. Soon the girls’ portfolios will be bound for inspection at Art Schools in Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen, and we wish them luck in their quests for places on courses for next year.

Elizabeth Hardman, Jodie Proudfoot Rebecca Cameron, Alistair Matheson, Roneil Mackenzie, Alisdair Maclennan, Laura Fothergill and Flora Stevens. The school was presented with digital sound recording equipment worth almost £1000. We now have another eight pupils who can be used as a ‘resource’ to assist in the production of almost any sort of interview, feature or recording. Deidre Leitch from the BBC, who delivered the training, said that they were some of the most competent pupils she has worked with in terms of their technical ability and imagination.

Duke of Edinburgh‘s Award Expedition training for the bronze expedition started on 28th February with an orienteering activity organised by Mrs. Johnston, assisted by several senior pupils. Despite a chilly wind and some heavy showers, pupils participated enthusiastically and completed the course quickly and accurately, although one did come back with no shoes on! Thanks to Mrs. Johnston for organising this and also to Mr. Calvert who has volunteered to join members of staff to help with training and the expeditions again this year. The dates have been posted on the school website.
